Why We Integrate Human Rights and STEM

STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

We show how STEM can be used to create positive change

STEM innovations play a key role in solving human rights issues. From artificial intelligence-based drones helping to eradicate malaria to polymers giving access to clean drinking water, innovations in STEM are addressing major human rights issues. Through sharing these innovations, we hope to inspire students to use STEM to help others.

We use human rights to show the real-world impact of STEM

Showing students how information they are learning in class is being used to tackle human rights issues adds a new level of depth to the lesson. This process of incorporating real-world examples into education is called context based learning and has been shown to increase student engagement and understanding.

We help prepare students to tackle global issues by improving global awareness

By interviewing the creators of STEM innovations addressing local and global human rights issues around the world, we help students develop a deeper understanding of other countries and cultures from a STEM perspective.
